Death Note in Theaters and Stuff

Posted on Friday 23 May 2008

(First of all, this is a LOOOONG entry.)

Last night my sisters and my future roomie (Lauren) and I drove out to Syracuse to the Carousel Mall and saw the Death Note limited release in theaters. It was great.

One of the funnest things to do was look around the mall and see if we could spot any cosplayers. I actually saw a few and then we ran into some in Hot Topic. The exchange was priceless. There were three girls all going together, one dressed as Misa, one as L, and one as Light. I knew they were yaoi fangirls because the girl dressed as Light had L on a chain. xD It was kinda creepy.

So anyway, the girl dressed as Misa walked into the store and saw Eloise (my sister) and her Pokemon shirt that she happened to be wearing and just yelled out, “Oh my gosh! I have that shirt! Pokemon is awesome!” and she started talking to us. She said she was going to the Death Note showing and when we told her we were going too she was all squeally and hugged my sisters and I. Lol, it was funny.

So then she introduced us to her friends and we left to go to the theater and get our seats. I expected the theater to be a little more full than it was but I was glad it wasn’t jam-packed cause we got good seats and everything. The girls from Hot Topic sat behind us. I did Clarice’s hair (my other sister) so that she could look like Misa too and the girl from HT was all like, “You have my hair!”. Clarice looked super cute that way. I think I’ll do her hair like that more often, lol.

So anyway, before the movie even started people were freaking out and being normal fan-people. They were all talking about Death Note and L and how much they hate Light, yadda yadda yadda. One girl in the front stood up and turned around, asking everyone whose side they were on and most people (if not everyone) said L. No surprise there, Light’s a freak. (and L’s voice is sexier…but yeah)

Speaking of voices (and no, I’m not hearing them). I went to the movie fully convinced that it would be subtitled and we were all prepared for it (Lauren and my sisters and I). The movie came on and someone talked and once we realized it was dubbed we all just kind of looked at each other. I could FEEL the disappointment in the room because I know a lot of other people thought it would be subbed as well. In the feature film behind-the-scenes thing at the end they had subs for a lot of it and I could hear people talking about how the movie should have been like that. I agree. I’ve seen it with subs and it just looks so much better when the characters mouths move correctly.

HOWEVER, they did use the same voices as the English Dub, which was amazing and great of them to do. It made me feel better because then at least the voices were familiar and consistent and not some random person trying to sound sexy like Alessandro Juliani (L). It made me feel like they at least put some time and thought into it.

So yeah, the dub was great. It’s only the fact that the mouths don’t match the words that bugged me. Ah well, it was still great though.

My sisters loved it too. I was so happy because I was afraid it wouldn’t be their thing but they seemed to really enjoy it. I can’t wait to see if they put the second movie in theaters as well. If they do, I’m totally there. Lauren said she would be too.

So anyway, we got slightly lost on the way home. That was fun. Stupid I81 that we couldn’t find. I realized that I am a failure at life while helping someone drive and find signs, especially if I don’t have my glasses. x_x

I played spades with Jeremy until wayyy too late at night (early in the morning). It was bad. xD But yet…so fun at the same time.

——–

Today I wasn’t planning to do much but then around 2:00 Lauren called and said she was about to go to Watertown and on the road. She said she then remembered that I would probably be home and bored too and wanted to know if I would go with her and I was like, “YES” so we went. Hah.

You people have NO idea how much of a life I DON’T have…seriously.

Anyway, so we went to Watertown with no goal and just to randomly hang out so we went to the mall and wandered around and stopped by some places including FYE where I bought a bottle of Ramune and some Japanese gum. It was kinda funny cause it was actually labeled ‘anime candy’ as if only anime fans buy/eat it. xD We stopped by the 99 cent store too and Lauren and I bought some oriental parasols for 2.99 each and we’re going to hand ours above each of our beds in the dorm. It’s going to be great. Lauren plans to do some paintings possibly that are asian-inspired for our room. It should be great, I can’t wait to see what we come up with.

I also plan to make a bunch of paper cranes over break to hang up scattered across the ceiling. It’s gonna look really awesome, especially if Lauren manages to get an asian-inspired bedset too. =) We need some anime posters/wallscrolls to top it off. (besides my fairy posters and my Sesshomaru wallscroll). Hopefully we can secure some FMA wallscrolls or something. It would be great. =)

So anyway, after we did the mall we went to Target and I got a bunch of awesome stuff from the $1 section. I LOVE their $1 section…seriously.

After that, Lauren got a call and found out she wouldn’t have to go to the stable so we went to McDonalds instead and ended up talking about random religious things, life issues, the world, creation, politics…and pretty much everything you can touch on in about an hour, lol.

It was awesome. I had a great day, or rather, a great two days. I love my life.

Stuck on Shroomy

Posted on Wednesday 21 May 2008

Hi, Jeremy here. Apparently, the base software package that I used to build the Shroomy site had lovely security vulnerabilities that allowed a bunch of losers to hack the site. It’ll be down for a while, while I put together something else to let Ruzena do her comic publishing.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

There’s No Place Like Home

Posted on Wednesday 7 May 2008

I’m finally home for the summer. Finals were tough and I’m not sure how I did on them since I only received my grade back for my American Lit one.

You know, one of the most frustrating things in the entire world is actually studying for something and getting a worst grade than your friend who didn’t study hardly at all. ;_; It’s just not fair…

So anyway, yeah. Still waiting on grades and maybe I’ll update after I receive those. Maybe. While I’m waiting, I’m still going to have to unpack all of my crap that we took home. However, the nice thing is that there is a storage place right near the college where we put the majority of my stuff (my fridge included) and a bunch of my brother’s stuff for next year so we won’t have to cart all that stuff back and forth. For the whole summer it’ll cost $130 to store it there but my mom said it’s SO worth not having to have all that crap at home for the summer.

Seriously, you have no idea. It would fill up the entire house. It was bad enough when we were getting ready to go but since then I collected more while I was at college so yeah. xD Totally totally worth it. It’s so convenient that it’s only 3 minutes away from Houghton. =3

Sam Rood stopped by yesterday with her sister which was awesome. We got into a spat near the very very end of school and all the way through graduation and our parties and stuff. It was bad. Eventually I convinced her to talk to me again. I hate when people don’t talk to me and/or don’t like me. It bugs the heck out of me. Especially if I know that they used to be my really good friend.

In anime news, I’m going to be starting some new series this summer. Perhaps I’ll post some reviews of things on here to add more to my blog. Jeremy says I don’t post enough… =x

Lauren and I are going to hang out over the summer and fit in some bonding time before we move in together to our dorm in August. I’m so flipping excited. =) It’s gonna be so fun. Line, Lauren, and I are going to have a great time drinkin’ tea and watching anime in our freetime. ^_^

HOLY CRAP

Posted on Thursday 24 April 2008

First of all, if you didn’t notice already– I’ve got my own blog with it’s own layout now!! =D  Yipee!!!  This basically means that Jeremyprivett.com is now Jeremy’s blog and Ruzenathibault.com is now mine. =)  HOWEVER, if you wish to view updates from both of us at the same time and in chronological order, feel free to visit JeremyandRuzena.com. =)  Yay.

Okay now that that’s over…time for other news.  So basically I completely finish my first year of college not this Monday but the Monday after. O.o So like… 11 days and I’m no longer a Freshman. Do you know how amazingly awesome and scary that is?

This year went by so fast…I’m kind of scared that the rest of my life will be like that. I’m really dreading getting old… I hate the thought that someday I might not be able to do what I do right now- physically AND mentally.

I guess I just need to live life to the fullest and I take what I have and run with it.

Also, everybody is pregnant! My lovely Emma-lemma is pregnant and then a bunch of my classmates and teachers and other random friends from school are. It’s ridiculous. Awesome but ridiculous. I do feel a little sad though about the people who can’t afford to have children. It’s sad that they got themselves into that mess and while a baby is a great thing there are times for having them and times for not. It’s sad that those who got pregnant on accident didn’t take the measures to avoid it. I wish them all luck!

Oh, and my cousin’s wife Mellie is pregnant again too. With her 5TH CHILD. I love Josh and Mellie dearly but I’m not sure “we’re going to have as many children as God gives us” is the right way to go about things when you have little money, 4 kids already (ages one, two, four, and six), and are doing missions jobs instead of real jobs that require a degree. =/ I wish them luck too and I’m sure the baby will be freaking beautiful like all the rest of theirs have been (I also secretly hope that it’s a girl). I can’t wait to hold it and everything. I still just wish they would take their situation into account and think of the childrens’ well-being rather than having more kids.

Happy Valentine’s Day (JUST ENJOY IT)

Posted on Thursday 14 February 2008

null

I just wanted to take a second and wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day!Now…just to say a few things though…

I don’t care if you’re dating.  I don’t care if you’re the best boyfriend or girlfriend in the world.  I don’t care if you hate Valentine’s day because you’re not dating or you hate it because other people are and you’re jealous.  I don’t care if you hate the holiday because it makes you sick (with envy, greed, annoyance, etc).  I don’t care if you hate Valentine’s day because you think it’s overrated.  I don’t care if you hate it because people try to outdo other people by buying the best presents and it annoys you.  I don’t care if you hated the Valentine’s Day parties in Elementary school and into Middle and Highschool.  I don’t care if you don’t want to go to a Valentine’s dance.  I don’t care if you hate Valentine’s Day because you think it makes you and your significant other look like everyone else.

I really don’t care.  Just don’t be so emo about it.  Suck it up.  Honestly, Valentine’s Day isn’t meant to make people feel bad, it’s meant to just be a good time when you can express how much you care about your girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife/mother/father/etc.  You don’t HAVE TO BE DATING TO ENJOY VALENTINE’S DAY.

Sorry to turn this into something else but I get sick of people whining about how much they hate it.  Just enjoy it for one second of your life.  If your friend gives you a flower, don’t think of it as cliche.  Valentine’s Day is just a day when you can appreciate the people you have in your life and possibly give something to them for being the person they are or receive something for being you.  If you’re bitter because you haven’t received something then maybe you ought to examine your own life and see the bigger picture.  It’s not about what you receive in physical gifts but what you as a person can give to your friends around you.

Again, I would like to wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day and just say that I appreciate each and every one of my dearest friends, relatives, and teachers and also that I appreciate JP for always being there for me.  Thanks you guys. (you know who you are) Also, thank you to those who sent me cards. (mostly my family) They made me smile.

I love you.

Hoops and Yoyo

Posted on Wednesday 6 February 2008

Okay…so this is completely random (not really) but I got these for my birthday. Is anyone else that reads this blog a fan of Hoops and Yoyo?

If you’ve never heard of them, they’re the endearing little…kitty, bunny, and mouse (?) trademarked from Hallmark and used on their cards and e-cards. I would have to say, the e-cards that you can send with these guys on them are the best e-cards I’ve ever seen and the most enjoyable to watch.

“You are sooooooooooooooooo cute.”

On a slightly different and more classy note, lookie what I made the other day! =D

That’s all folks. =)

Hello, Buffalo!

Posted on Sunday 3 February 2008

So this past weekend I went into buffalo with two of my classmates (James and Dan) and a girl (Catherine) that works up there every weekend teaching English to refugee students. It was a trip that was organized by my professor Dr. Daugherty of my ‘Families in Poverty’ class.

Basically, James (the oldest student in the car and also one that works with refugee families on the weekends) drove us up there in his spiffy Volkswagen rabbit to the “Hope Refugee Center” on the Westside of Buffalo. We met up with Bonnie and Anna, two of the main managers of Hope. We learned a lot from them and from the other speakers that showed up to talk to us. It was really enlightening within just the first few hours of us being there.

To Offset Geekspeak

Posted on Friday 11 January 2008

Maybe Ruzena will definitely post stuff to offset the programming gibberish she doesn’t understand and distract people from reading it. =P

After all, who can REALLY understand…

P-P-P-Programming man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah. Anyway. Jeremy can talk about himself if he wants and all about how he lives at home now and stuff. In other news, I’m back at school now (Houghton College) and taking classes I actually like and living at the dorm and taking care of myself again. I don’t know, I like being home (a lot) but there’s just something about being here that makes me feel comfortable. However, I was just starting to get used to being at home again so it’s nice to know the whole summer won’t be bad or anything. I’ll get used to it again and then I’ll hafta get used to being at school all over again. It’s like a never-ending cycle of DOOM!!!!

So yeah. I’m taking some English classes. =) And they seem like they’ll be okay. (although one of the teachers kind of freaks me out because she’s making me think I’m gonna do awful in the class…I don’t know why. I shouldn’t cause English is one of my majors…but still. =/ So yeah…pray for me throughout the semester?

Liney and I are inviting Vilmary, Amber, and Savvy over tonight to watch a movie and eat the cupcakes we made yesterday. =D I’m excited! Yay food and movies!!!! (I’m gonna be fat)

In other news, I’m officially a college sophomore now. o.O I have 36 credits as of the end of last semester because I transferred some in after taking college classes in high school. Woot. =D I’m still gonna stick around the whole 4 years though most likely. I’ll just have one extra semester and then my semester right before I graduate. One of them will be used (probably the second) for my student teaching section. We’ll see how things go. =) I have a few years yet to worry about that, ne?

Oh yeah, and I will (hopefully) be helping make a layout for our blog. =) Yay.

So. To end all things I leave you with one piece of information.

The dog barked swiftly under the cheese ball yule corncob last yesterday on 3:00 degrees fahrenheit, word.

Thank you.
